One, Two, Three, Four, ...Twenty! Ready, or not, here I come!
Hide and Seek is a game my grandchildren love to play when it's too cold or wet to go outside. They squeeze into cupboards, behind curtains, and into closets, all in hopes of evading the one who's looking for them.
Adults like to hide too. We hide ourselves from others as well as ourselves, but not as a game. Hiding isn't something new. It's been going on as long as sin has been in the world. Adam and Eve hid themselves from one another and from God after that first sin. Guilt, shame, and fear consumed them; initiating the first cover up. (Genesis 2:25 & 3:6-10)
We were created to be in transparent relationship with our Creator and one another. No separation or fear! Only intimacy through the experience of living life together. Thankfully, the LORD provided the ultimate covering. Jesus! His sinless life, death, and resurrection brought a covering that is eternal for all who will receive it. For all who want what the Creator originally intended. Freedom! No condemnation! A return to intimacy and transparency without fear! (John 3:16, Romans 8:1)
We can all be seekers! We can experience the joy of living in Jesus; looking for and finding Him in the everyday of living. Knowing He's there and looking for Him instead of focusing on the things of this world. He's never absent, but always present. We can be sure to find Him, if it's our desire to do so.
"When you come looking for me, you'll find me.
Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else,
I'll make sure you won't be disappointed." God's Decree.
Jeremiah 29:13-14a (MSG)
So, the question I'm asking myself today, is...
Will I spend my day as the hider or the seeker?
My choice will impact my entire day and ripple outward.
It will infect and influence those around me.
I can walk in the defeat of condemnation and fear. Or...
I can walk by Holy Spirit and...
see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
Seems like a no brainer, right?
LORD, help me be self-controlled and alert to my default of hiding.
Help me live in fearless transparency.
And help me become an intentional seeker!
