Slave...

For by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved.  2 Peter 2:19b I'm positive I've read this verse before, but it struck me this time...right between the eyes.  All of us are slaves to something or someone.  To whom or what am I enslaved? It's so easy to say we're slaves of sin or righteousness, but how often does my life display both?  How is that possible?  I'm reminded of what we're told in James, "Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water?  Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring." But a justified believer is always in the process of being sanctified, right?  If so, don't we have both bitter and fresh water coming out of us or is it all bitter until the fresh completely flushes the bitter out?  No!  Evidence of the Spirit's fresh waters are in me while at the same time He is removing the bitter from me. "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body." I Corinthians 6:19-20 (NASB) I want to know God's heart when He wrote this to us through Paul.  Surely, He didn't mean for us to be consumed with taking care of our bodies!  Wouldn't that be idolatry?  But, is neglecting our bodies God honoring. Hmmm...What else besides my health would fall under the category of body? Tongues!  How can we honor God with our body if what comes out of our mouth does not honor Him. Isn't our tongue part of our body? James 3:2 tells us "If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well." Whoa?  Does this mean if I can control my tongue I will also be in control of my whole self?  Sure looks like it!  So, I must learn to control my tongue...or maybe I
