In The Garden...Bees

I’ve always been fascinated by bees.  They’re beautiful and tempt me to touch.  A word of caution, the females sting.  And before you ask, I have no idea how to tell which bees are female.

I do know bees play an important role in the garden.  They pollinate flowers, vegetables, fruits, and trees.  It’s the result of their movement, but it’s not their reason for going to the garden.  No, they’re there to gather food.  They’re doing what bees do.

Bees seem to defy the laws of aerodynamics, and at one time, it was thought the flight of a bumblebee was a physical impossibility.  Bees never stopped flying because man didn’t understand how it was possible.  No! They continued flying because that's what bees do.

I see two important spiritual lessons here:
1 – Be who you were created to be, and
2 - Don’t listen to those who question your ability to do what you’re created to do.

Being is freedom.  God put me (and you) in a specific time and place to do specific good works.  It’s His plan.  All we have to do is know our identity and then live it out.  It’s His responsibility to bring His plan to completion!

We are a part of God’s plan.  He didn’t make a mistake when He created you or me.  But if we believe the world's version of what's possible, we will never do what we were created to do.

We can believe God, trust His word, enjoy being His child, and embrace the freedom of walking through our days by His Holy Spirit.  We can live with expectation, because the LORD our God is able to do more than we can think or imagine.  We can enjoy being who we are because we are confident in who He is!

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.  Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

Whoever is a believer in Christ is a new creation. The old way of living has disappeared. A new way of living has come into existence. God has done all this. He has restored our relationship with him through Christ, and has given us this ministry of restoring relationships.  2 Corinthians 5:17-18 (GW)

Jesus looked at them and said, “With people [as far as it depends on them] it is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”  Matthew 19:26 (AMP)

Faithful and absolutely trustworthy is He who is calling you [to Himself for your salvation], and He will do it [He will fulfill His call by making you holy, guarding you, watching over you, and protecting you as His own].  1 Thessalonians 5:24 (AMP)

You will do everything you have promised;
    Lord, your love is eternal.
Complete the work that you have begun.
Psalm 138:8 (GNT)

I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ.  Philippians 1:6 (NRSV)

Now glory be to God, who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of—infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes. May he be given glory forever and ever through endless ages because of his master plan of salvation for the Church through Jesus Christ.  Ephesians 3:20-21 (TLB)

  1. One of my favorite "Be" verses is Joshua 1:9, "Haven't I ordered you, 'Be strong, be bold'? So don't be afraid or downhearted, because Adonai your God is with you wherever you go."

Back when I first began to tell my fears and insecurities they would no longer have safe harbor in my life, I would use this verse to remind me of who I was to be - strong and bold. I would also use this verse to remind myself I was never going to be alone - the LORD was with me. I'm happy to report, He has helped me kick all but my deepest hidden fears and insecurities out, and He helps me keep watch for those who want back into safe harbor in my life. I have every confidence He will see them all found and me free of them. I'm thankful beyond words for the freedom He's brought into my life and for the truth that He is always with me!

Surgery Needed!

I’ve spent years wanting to write words that will bring life and encouragement into the lives of others.   I’ve not written for fear of writing the wrong words or being misunderstood.   I’ve lived a life of disobedience.   I’ve used other “good things” to procrastinate and justify myself.   I’ve allowed dead works to fill my days and ease my conscience, but… Last weekend, I read a verse that caused me to pray a prayer that has rocked my world.   It turned me upside down and has shaken me so hard that everything of no value has been exposed.   Just this morning I was given the reminder that I was delivered and called to a life of holiness for God’s purposes and not my own (2 Timothy 1:9).   So, I’m guessing you want to know what Saturday’s verse was.   Here goes… The verse was Acts 3:26.   So it is to you first that God has sent His servant who He has raised up, so that He might bless you by turning each one of you from your evil ways. ...

In The Garden...The Flower Walk

Our family has a tradition we call the Flower Walk.  It's an early morning stroll around the garden looking at all that's changed since the previous day.  There's nothing like the quiet stillness, broken only by the singing of the birds.  The dew is heavy and the air is cool. Our Flower Walk is usually done alone, but I do the Flower Walk with Momma or Daddy whenever I'm back home.  We carry a cup of hot drink and amble around the yard and talk about what we see.  We don't whisper, but there is a hush to our words; we speak with a quietness to match the morning air.  We usually settle on the porch and talk about life as we've talked about the garden.  We talk about the things past and dreams for things yet to come.  There is an intimacy in the time we spend together.   There's the lingering of many past walks; the hope of future walks. Gardening, for me, is not about the work or even the flowers that come and go with the seasons....

In The Garden...Tools

Spring beckons us outdoors and invites us to stroll around our gardens.  We see the new growth and we take stock of what needs to be done to keep all our plants as healthy as possible.   For the next few weeks, I want to compare the work of tending our garden to tending the garden of our hearts.   Gardening requires tools , and those tools must be taken care of properly.  They must be cleaned and many must be sharpened.  Items needed will vary by tool, but we all need rags, alcohol, and oil.  Some of you sharpen your own tools which adds sharpening devices and knowledge of angles to the list of things you need.  Other tools need things like electrical cords and batteries.   Not everyone would agree, but I consider gloves and sunglasses as must-have garden tools.  Gloves protect my hands and ensure a firm grip.  S unglasses keep me from squinting against the glare, and help me see what I'm doing.  I don't want to lop off the...
